2 firefighters injured in Glendale fire

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) — Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that damaged a home in Glendale and injured two firefighters on Monday.

The fire broke out at a home in the 2000 block of Chilton Drive just after 10 p.m.

When fire crews arrived, they saw heavy flames coming out of the second floor.

Authorities say everyone got out of the home.

Firefighters had the flames out in about 10 minutes, but not before two firefighters got hurt.

“One of the firefighters was badly injured. He was screaming in the chair, twitching and screaming … fire coming off of him,” said witness Armen Arshakyan.

One firefighter was taken to Sherman Oaks Burn Center and the other was sent to Glendale Adventist Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Both firefighters were released Monday night.

The firefighter taken to Sherman Oaks will return to the burn center Tuesday to be reevaluated. He received burns to his shoulders and arms, and significant burns to his hands.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
