DeMarcus Ware Carted Off Field After Injuring Neck

ARLINGTON, Texas — Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware was carted off the field today after being injured early in the fourth quarter against the Chargers.
With 11:28 to play in regulation, Ware collided head-first with the leg of Chargers tackle Brandyn Dombrowski on a pass rush. Ware was immobilized and placed on a stretcher.
The preliminary report was that Ware had a sprained neck, but he had full movement and strength in his extremities. Ware was taken to the hospital for X-rays and further evaluation. The severity of Ware’s injury was not immediately known.
It was a scary sight, as Ware was strapped to a gurney, surrounded by medical staff as concerned players on both teams looked on. Ware gave the thumbs-up sign with his left hand before being loaded onto the cart, which drew a cheer from the crowd.
If one of the league’s best defensive players misses significant time, the Cowboys will sorely miss him.
