Nikki Catsouras Car Crash Photos

On Halloween 2006, 18-year-old Nikki Catsouras reportedly got into an argument with her father and he took away her car keys.  She then took her father’s black Porsche 911 Carrera and while driving at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a concrete tollbooth. She was killed instantly and then just a few days later, nine graphic Nikki Catsouras car crash photos were published all over the internet.

Just days after the accident, her father Christos, who is a real estate agent, reveived an e-mail that he thought was a property listing, but turned out to be pictures of his daughter Nikki’s blood-covered face accompanied by the following caption: “Whoohoo Daddy! Hey Daddy, I’m still alive.”

California Highway Patrol apologized for the leaked photos blaming two CHP dispatchers.  One of the men’s attorney said that he sent the images to relatives and friends “as a cautionary tale” to warn them of the dangers of the road. “Any young person that sees these photos and is goaded into driving more cautiously or less recklessly-that’s a public service.”   One was suspended and the other one ended up quitting.

Since then the Catsourases have spent thousands of dollar in legal fees  attempting to stop the photos from being published and sued the CHP for negligence, invasion of privacy and emotional distress, but in March of 2008, the case was dismissed by a California superior-court judge.

The family has since appealed.
